Citation in second paragraph (ECP edit request)

[edit]

This could really use a citation:

The motivation behind the disengagement was described by Sharon's top aide as a means of isolating Gaza and avoiding international pressure on Israel to reach a political settlement with the Palestinians.

Here's an article that would work: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/oct/07/israel

Per that article, I'd suggest editing the text as follows:

The motivation behind the disengagement was described by Sharon's top aide as a means of isolating Gaza and avoiding international pressure on Israel to reach a political settlement with the Palestinians, foreclosing the possibility of a Palestinian state.

citation for first paragraph

[edit]

"Gaza Strip is still considered to be occupied under international law."

There's a citation needed flag on that sentence, although it contains a link to the page on "ICJ case on Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories." An article that deals straight-forwardly with that issue is: Lisa Hajjar (14 July 2017) Is Gaza Still Occupied and Why Does It Matter?, Jadaliyya. Samaria?

[edit]

So if we get enough people to start calling Israel “shithole,” are you guys going to put (shithole) in parentheses next to Israel? Samaria is not another name for the West Bank. It is only referred to as that term by less than 1% of the world population. The rest call it the West Bank. This needs to be removed 38.69.58.95 (talk) 02:43, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change: more than half of the first paragraph is about legal issues, and should not be so. This article is about the disengagement, not the legal situation post-disengagement. The first paragraph should state what the disengagement was, what led to it, how it was implemented and how it affected the Palestinians in Gaza and the settlers who where forced out of it. The legal status of Gaza post-disengagement is less important for this article in my on POV and should be in the second paragraph.
